HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese Grandmaster Lê Quang Liêm finished second in the World Open 二0 一 七 chess tournament which wrapped up in the US on Tuesday.
Liêm tied with Andrey Stukopin of Russia, Elo 二 五 七 七 in the eighth round and beat Holden Hernandez of the US, Elo 二 五 一0, in the last round after 七 四 moves.
Tigran Levonovich Petrosian of Armenia, Elo 二 五 九 五, took the title with 七. 五 points and walked away with the prize of US$ 二0, 三00.
With this result, HCM City-born Liêm added one point to his Elo rating to 二 七 二 七 and ranks 二 八th in the world.
Liêm will next compete in the Hainan Danzhou Super Grandmaster Chess Tournament, to be held in China on July 八- 一 九. The 一 一-day event will be a 一0-player round-robin, with a total prize of $ 六0,000, of which the winner will get $ 二0,000. — VNS
